Global Dance Festival 2010 – Red Rocks Amphitheater

Global 2010If I could recommend attending one dance music massive event ever, I would probably tell you to go to this one.  Global Dance Festival has been the biggest dance music event in Colorado for the last eight years, and they bring some of the hugest names in dance.  The festival this year is going to be phenomenal.  It’s going to cover two solid nights, and the lineup is absolutely top notch.  Here are a few of the headliners and some background info.

Kaskade

I originally got into Kaskade after seeing him at HallowFreaknWeen this past October.  His style is trancy and ambient with really catchy purposeful melodies and vocals.  He is one of my personal favourite “pure” EDM producer/DJs

Pendulum

Bringing in some extremely high energy Drum and Bass is the Australian/British group Pendulum.  Their music is fast, heavy, and crazy addicting.  If you doubt me hit play… but don’t worry the fat guy isn’t in the band.

Needless to say these guys cannot be missed.  On a side note their new album drops in May, and from what I’ve heard it’s gonna be really good.

Deadmau5

If you haven’t heard of deadmau5 you are probably not an EDM fan.  This guy is probably the biggest name in dance music lately.  His deep and soft style is super easy on the eardrums and his technical style will get his songs stuck in your head for days at a time.  His songs are characterized by subtle but powerful builds and drops.  As an amateur producer myself, this guy is terribly inspiring.  He is so good in fact, that I’m gonna need to put up three videos.  Deadmau5 will probably be the highlight of this event.

Infected Mushroom

Kings of the old-school style, these guys basically helped get EDM into the air.  These guys have a pretty cool live show, incorporating some of the “regular” instruments from rock and roll.

I’ve seen these guys a few times before and it is always a great show.

the rest…

  1. SCORE! I knew that this was a cool event, but seeing that Deadmau5 is coming this year totally sold me on it. I would LOVE to see him play, and I’m definitely going to be buying my ticket to this soon…(It’s probably really expensive, which is lame, but I think it should be worth it…)

    • Yeah, it will be expensive. But your right, as soon as they announced Deadmau5 I was sold too. I got the two-day pass for $100.00, and I think single day tickets are probably more than $50.00 now.

It WILL be worth it. I have never seen the mau5 before but most everyone who has says he will completely blow you away. I’m super psyched.

  2. Now that I read this, I’m really disappointed that I didn’t know about this. I mean, Kaskade, Deadmau5, IM? I truly am missing some of the biggest names in dance music today. Luckily, this is in July, so I might just get some friends together and go to this. I haven’t been to a concert in so long, so this’d be a great opportunity to get back into the concert scene. I can’t wait.

And Joe, regardless of if people stay in their cliques, it’s not like you require other people’s attention to have fun. I mean, why not go dance with them? It’s a global dance festival. The insanity and energy is meant to be shared.

  3. All I can say is that i am stoked for day 1 of global. I am for sure gonna do what I can to make it there, not just because of the bomb lineup, but also because it would be my first Global. Infected, Pendelum, Deadmau5…enough said. If you are thinking of whether or not to go to Global this year, or can’t decide which day you want to go to, then i highly recommend going on Friday night. Trust me you won’t regret it.

    • Don’t forget Saturday will also be awesome! Paul van Dyk is a king of European trance. Kaskade always has great crowd pleasing sets, and BT is absolutely a staple. His “laptop symphony” is definately worth seeing.

I just updated the post with the full announced lineups for both days toward the bottom.

  4. I had a roommate go to Global Dance Fest last year. Overall, she had a good time, but her major concern was that people weren’t socializing enough for her tastes, instead sticking to their own smaller groups or cliques and dancing.

Still, can’t beat the collection of performances and few venues come close to Red Rocks. Sounds like a great time.
